Workshop, October 14-20, 2024

n-ost (Germany) together with Fundacja Autonomia (Poland) and Human Constanta (Belarus) are pleased to announce the start of the application process for second joint event within the project “History Unit: Reframing Queer Narratives in Media”.

What: educational and networking program

When: 14-20 October, 2024

Where: Berlin, Weimar and Buchenwald (Germany)

For whom: journalists and activists from Belarus, Germany, Poland and Ukraine

The program connects media professionals and queer activists who have journalistic experience. With this workshop, we want to research narratives of queer past with main focus on the NS-persecution of queers. We want to draw meaningful parallels between historical oppression of LGBTQ+ individuals and the present-day challenges faced by queer communities in the project countries. This educational program includes

  • a thematic tour to the memorial site of Buchenwald (Germany) with insight in historic sources
  • tours of Berlin’s queer archives and libraries: Spinnboden, Schwules Museum
  • lectures and discussions with researchers, journalists and activists (among them Joanna Ostrowska)
  • practical working phases with professional support
  • city tours
  • cultural events
  • networking

All participants of the program will have the opportunity to apply for a follow up stipendium to create cross-border journalistic content. More information will be provided during the workshop.

Who can apply?

We want to address media professionals as well as queer activists with experience in content creation from the following countries: Poland, Belarus, Ukraine and Germany (regardless of the current place of residence). Unfortunately, we cannot assist with any visa procedures.

How to apply?

Please, complete the questionnaire by 25.8.2024, 23:59 (CET time). The application should be in English, except for the motivational part, for which you can choose any project language (Belarusian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, English). The selected participants will be informed by 6.9.2024.
